The genesis of this wonderful game of golf cannot be
traced. One thing for sure is that this wonderful sport has
been around for a very long time. Scotland has
perhaps one of the oldest golf courses in the world and
this game was played in Great Britain way back in the
seventeenth century. The first British Open Golf
tournament was held in Prestwick, in Scotland. The first
golf club that came up was North America. This was
initially a three holes club and as time passed the
number of holes was slowly increased to eighteen. The
credit for the first eighteen holes golf course goes to
one that was made near Wheaton in Illinois in 1893.

Nowadays, golf has a very well developed infrastructure with
the PGA looking after proceedings. PGA supports all kinds of
golf tournaments be it between professionals or amateurs.
For example, it supports tournaments such as United States
women~s open, Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA)
etc. In the past 50 years, golf has shown massive growth.
Along with its popularity, it has become a viable career
option. You can gauge this from the fact that as far back as
1963 golfer Arnold Palmer made history by earning 1 million
dollars a year. While another golfer, Jack Nicklaus earned 2
million in 1973 going on to earn 5 million per year by 1988.
As you can see, golf has become a professional game with
major stakes.

Golf has spread all over the world. No matter where you
are you are never far from a golf course. You may not be
a great golfer but it does not mean that you cannot enjoy
playing the lovely game of golf. It is a very relaxing
game to be played by all. All country clubs usually have
golf courses where you can enjoy yourself with your friends
and family. If you are unsure of your skills, you can also

This game is for gentlemen and requires a lot of etiquette.
To start with, you require the proper attire and well
fitting golf shoes. A good set of golf clubs are necessary
to start and learn the game. The clothing and environment
of a good golf course would make you feel like a
professional. In case you are unable to gain admission into
a golf club then you can consider making this into a family
outing by enjoying a game of miniature golf. There are many
establishments allover the country that offers these
facilities that can be a fun filled family outing.

If you are just starting to play, do practice at the driving
range first! Get a pro instructor to teach you how to swing
properly and check your stance. The golf swing feels very
unnatural the first few times you try it. So, having a pro
to teach and correct you is important. Before long, you'll
be driving the ball straight and far. You might want to hold
off buying your golf set first. Borrow some medium irons
from a friend or your golf instructor. Once you're hooked
(you'll know if you're hooked :-)), then ask your instructor
for advice on choosing clubs to fit you. Let's enjoy some
